e4od not engaging when warm
e4od not engaging when warm
have a 96 f150 that starts up fine, drives and goes thru the gears for about 2 miles then nothing thru the trans, engine revs but no go, turn off truck, let set 10min to cool down, then good to go for another 2 miles. any ideas??
maybe warm isnt the right way to describe the trouble. the truck drives for a few miles, then wont engage any gear, yet turning the truck off for 5 minutes and restarting it i can then drive for another 3 miles, so tranny and its fluid hasnt cooled down any. Maybe like a buildup of pressure makes the gears no longer engage??, truck runs great and goes thru all gears smoothly for a few miles at a time. no sludge in bottom of pan, fluid good and red with no burnt smell. ANY ideas?????
The first diagnostic step is to put a 0-350 PSI gauge in the test port on the side of the trans. It has a black hex head plug in it from the factory. The thread is a 1/8" NPT. Let's see what the pressure is doing when it won't go into gear.
