4R75W Slipping in forward

All at once the other morning transmission starting slipping bad. Had it towed home pulled the pan filter was laying in pan. Trans fluid is not burnt and pan is spotless which is surprising as there is 238k on it. I put new filter on replaced pan and filled with fluid but still slipping. Code that comes up is p0720 output shaft sensor. Could this be the cause? I would think if clutches where burnt than fluid should be burnt but its not still clean as I have it changed pretty regular. This is in a 2006 f-150

I'm not sure you don't have some damage if there is actual slippage, but it makes logical sense to address the speed sensor issue first just in case.

How did you get the code read?

I guess what I was asking is it started slipping first than the code come up. So do you think the slipping cause the sensor to read wrong? or can this sensor read wrong with out sending a code.

I got it out and tore down. Found the problem forward clutch drum split at snap ring.

Is the sonnax upgrade worth it? And is it a direct replacement? Anybody with any experience with these.

Sounds about right.

You definitely won't break the Sonnax drum. They are a strong replacement. Also a direct replacement. You do have to press your input shaft out of your old drum and into the Sonnax drum though.

Worth it is up to you. I don't typically use them unless specifically requested.

Any suggestions on where to find one. I see used ones online but would rather not for fear of failure.

Well I just splurged and ordered the sonnax one. The truck has quite a few miles on it but its been a good one and no plans of getting rid of it yet.

Also ordered the sonnax shift correction kit to go with it. While I haven't had any of the shifting issues thought I would go ahead and put it in.

Got them from Oregon Performance.

Thanks, but I really didn't do much in this case. You found it and fixed it on your own. Great job.

I've been scarce lately because of a family member being in the hospital. I usually try to be more quick to reply and more helpful than I was for you on this.

Ok it has done it a couple times now! After the rebuild occasionally it will hesitate shifting between 2-3 not slipping like it goes 2-n-3. I did install sure cure kit from sonax during rebuild But it is so random maybe something is just hanging up?

I hate to tell you this. I don't like badmouthing stuff often. But I was concerned over the "shift correction" kit you said you bought and used. I would suggest getting that out of there and also have a good look at your 2-3 accumulator piston.

Well unfortunately original parts are long gone. is there a shift kit out there you could recommend so I could swap out. I have noticed it increasing in regulatory so don't want to leave it.
