I own a 2001 f150 supercrew 5.4 4wd with about 218k miles.

I was thinking about finding a tranny I could rebuild in my spare time. I have always wanted to learn how to rebuild an auto tranny and when the current tranny goes I will be able to swap it out etc...

What year vehicles would I be able to pull a tranny from for a direct swap?

I believe my truck has the 4r70w.

 

A 4wd F-150 from 99 to 03 I believe is a direct swap.

 

I agree with glc. That combo he suggested should work out good.

Ideally, I would try to stay in in your same model year, but sometimes that doesn't always happen.
