1999 F150 transmission question
I have a 1999 F150 with the 6 cylinder. The truck has 30,000 miles on it. I feel I need to change the transmission fluid due to the age. Is there a way to drain the transmission completely? Would a partial change(dropping the pan) and changing the filter be adequate?

A 1999 will have a drain plug in the torque converter. Between that and dropping the pan you will get all but about 1 quart out. The drain plug in the TC is accessible through the dust cover on the bottom of the bellhousing. You will have to turn the motor over till the plug becomes visible.
Use Mercon V, you will need about 14 quarts. If you change the filter, make sure the O-ring comes out with it. Reuse the factory pan gasket unless it's damaged, it's better than any replacement and designed to be lifetime. The filter is also designed to be lifetime, it only catches pretty big chunks. Clean the pan and magnet, and throw away the yellow bobber if it's in there.
