4r70w downshifting problem

02 f150 5.4l Fx4 with the 4r70w
when downshifting after its warmed up, it flips to neutral with an odd thudding noise sounding like its coming directly beneath the drivers seat. the case was from a '97 that a ford mechanic rebuilt. we replaced all the old sensor, valve body, etc from my 02 for whom it may concern. any ideas? neutral safety switch problem? could it be a vale body issue? any concerns would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

what valve body did you use? 97 model case has .020" bleed hole in the case for the OD servo. 2001 and newer case does not have this hole and the valve body is completely redesigned. you can not mix the 2 castings.
