4r70w 97-03 compatibility

So my 4r70w in my 02 4x4 5.4 went out, i found a 97 with low miles, they are compatible correct?

Not really. There are some electrical differences. You are much better off with a late model trans.

Okay, i figured probably switch all of the sensors over, valvebody etc the thing is i have a limited time to change trans, so any helo is much appreciated

The transmission was updated in 2001 with better internals, better case and valve body.
2001 and up transmission is mechanically and electronically different from the 1997.

save your time and efforts and find a 2001 or 2002 transmission from a 5.4L truck.

Yeah, agreed that I wouldn't do that. You want to find something between 01-03 from a 5.4 4x4.

The 97 will work if you swap the electronics, but the newer transmissions are definitely that much better. If you get a good one you won't be waiting for it to fail like you would with the earlier trans.
