goes into neutral instead of overdrive HELP!!!

2004 F150 5.4 auto

I was driving about 45mph when some douche pulled out in front of me and I had to slam on my brakes when I tried to get up to speed again my truck wouldn't move. I pulled over and started driving again it was fine went into first second third then slipped into neutral again. After this happened a couple times I turned my overdrive off I could get back into higher speeds fine (55-60)as soon as I turned the overdrive on again back into neutral. I checked the fuse and its fine If this has happened to anyone else please let me know if theres anything I can do or if my overdrive is shot. thanks

You checked "The" fuse? What fuse is that? I'm not aware of an overdrive fuse.

You have had a mechanical failure in the overdrive. Sometimes it is just a strut fell out and can be reinstalled very easily once the pan is off. Sometimes something breaks and the trans has to come out to fix it.

I checked a fuse before I wrote this but then realized I read the diagram wrong and it had nothing to do with the overdrive just frustrated reading I guess. I'm not to good with transmissions i'm assuming my best bet is to take it to a shop and have someone check it out just so I don't break something else
