Knocking Sound

I'm driving an '02 4.2L V6 F150, its a manual. There is a consistent knocking sound coming from what I suspect is the tranny. From the minute I start it up, the sound begins. It continues while I drive, and it picks up with frequency as I speed up. This happens in all gears. Even while I am rolling down a hill in neutral, the sound continues. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this noise?

Could you post a sound of it? There are many sounds a trans could be making. Just to check... kids used to put zip ties on the drive shaft and it would hit the bottom of the truck when you drive lol. I've seen it once before.

Does the knocking EVER stop? What about sitting still in neutral? What about with the clutch released, both moving and sitting still?

Are you sure its not coming from the engine? If you have a bent rod it will make a knocking sound that is constant

I doubt that - if the flywheel had broken teeth you would have starter issues.

One and only one post made 3 weeks ago, no reply. I think we are wasting our time.
