bad trans?
bad trans?
4.6, 2wd, scab with about 140xxx miles. 35 inch tires and re-geared.
Driving to work last week truck started slipping in first and second gear and would not shift out of first gear until I let off the throttle. 60 miles later check engine light came on, and I babied it home for another 30 miles. I pulled the code and it was P0750, shift solenoid A, or a short in a wiring harness. I did do my research on this and I am confident I could fix it, problem is I am injured with a cast on each wrist. I then decided to take the truck to my ford master mechanic on Tuesday, he called me today saying that the trucks transmission is actually going bad.
Question is, is my mechanic pulling my chain, or could the transmission really be going bad? From what I read its just a electronic issue.
I don't want to spend money on a new trans if its not needed, obviously.
Any info or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Well I called a transmission shop and had a second opinion. It is confirmed that the transmission is going out. He quoted me at 2200 for a rebuild, with installation.
Seemed a little high so I started searching for a used one. 200 miles away I found one for 850 with 65000 miles on it.
Should I look around for someone to rebuild it cheaper? Or would a used one at that price be fine?
