I have a 1997 f-150 4x4 with the 4.6L with the automatic transmission and im not sure of the size of tires i have on my truck but there are around 31 or 33. I'm guessing my transmission is going considering it doesnt shift into 3rd gear and i can only do about 50 mph max. I have already bought a used transmission once and had that one rebuilt as well...this will be the 3rd time my transmission goes out? What kind of transmission do i need to buy and what other parts do i need to buy to help my transmission and truck last longer?

without seeing the truck, it sounds like the tranny is not being rebuilt correctly or sub-standard (cheap) parts are being used in the rebuild. Properly prepped, these tranny's will handle 600+ hp in racing conditions with no issues.

 

Maybe buy a modified transmission. A coworker here in FL seems pleased with his built by Monster transmissions.
