??6 speed trany

How difficult would it be to put a newer F150 6 speed auto into a 2007 F150 (2wd)? What problems would you forsee I would I run into?

For one it would require wiring modifications, as well as tuning for the 6 speed. I have no idea about fitment??

Im sure it would be a PITA lol

Well, the ECM would have to be reprogrammed.....but there is an ol saying in the hot rod community....if you have the power you don't need the gears......while the 6sp is really to get the engine to run at a lower rpm, if you check the mpg's, there is really only about 2 mpg difference between the 4sp & 6sp auto in real life.....

You don't have the correct understanding of the 6R80, beechkid.

1. It uses a separate TCM, so not only would the ECM have to be reprogrammed, you would have to get some kind of separate controller for the tranny.

2. 6th gear is essentially the same ratio as 4th in the 4R tranny. The engine will not run at a lower rpm. 1st gear is lower and the other ratios are closer together.

You are right & I should have gone further in explanation.....the idea as you stated is to keep the engine running at a lower rpm & shift sooner into the next gear to increase MPG's. Realistically, it only results in 1-3 mpg difference.....in summary, the cost associated with swapping to the 6R80 tranny to benefit is , well not cost effective. In terms of performance, if you have the power you don't need the gears...........kinda like NHRA top fuelers, some run 2 speeds, some run 3 speeds.....but 4 speeds haven't been seen in decades...............because the engines have more than enough tq to push through the gears and shifting of course will take away from the ET. My point was, there will be no performance gain (or so little) there would also be no cost justification.

The only way you are gonna get a significant increase is to also install numerically lower gears - THAT will reduce the cruising RPM's and the low 1st gear will make up for the performance decrease.

Well I wasn't looking at just gas mileage. I was just wondering about overall performance, since there are more gears. Plus I think it would be cool!!
