5 speed ?
5 speed ?
Here is a test question for all of you out there--My 1999 has a 5 speed and only 110,000 miles and I don`t drive it much anymore. When the last time I used it ( sitting in garage for about a month) the clutch has a dead spot at the top and grabs at the bottom. There is no clutch in the dead spot the pedal moves freely with no pressure. At the end of my trip 40-50 miles the clutch was working fine! No dead spot and it grabed in the middle as usual. I checked the fluid and it was fine and there was no puddle on the garage floor under the truck. Anybody got an idea?
My guess as to what happened:
The o-ring that seals the the slave cylinder got a little less pliable while the truck was sitting unused for a while.
The first time you depressed the clutch pedal, when you went to use the truck finally, an air bubble or three got past into the slave cylinder. This would give you the mushy, soft pedal feel.
Once you started driving it and using the clutch, the slave cylinder seal/o-ring sealed back up, and eventually the air bubbles worked themselves up to the top and released into the top of the fluid resevoir. (basically, the clutch bled itself)
