4.2 Tranny Swap

I am new to the forum and have a quick question. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have a 99 f1 ext cab 2wd with the 4r70w trAnny. The other night while driving home my tailshaft exploded causing my driveshaft to snap in half. I decided I was gonna throw a 5 speed in it. I found a few online but they wanted 300 well I found one at the local pull a part but it's out of a 97 4wd. Will it work I know that I need to change some stuff but will it bolt up everything looked pretty much the same but my oil pan looks quite a bit different than the 97. Is the bell housing the same? Thanks guys I appreciate it

It has to be out of a 4.2 or it will not bolt up, and can't be adapted. The 4.6 has a different bellhousing pattern. You will need a flywheel, bellhousing, clutch assembly, etc. and if it's a 4wd trans you will have to tear it down and change the whole tailshaft. You may also need a PCM out of a 99 manual trans truck.

A 4wd trans will not bolt up to a 2wd driveshaft. A 2wd trans will not bolt up to a transfer case. That's why I said the whole tailshaft needs to be changed.

I think so. The ECM controls the 4R70, there is no control with a manual.

Is there any ways way to remove the brake pedal assembly? I took all the bolts out and the pedal but it seems like there is no way to get it out of there without either ripping out the whole dash or removing the brake booster
