Transmission Shutter at 40mph

I have a 2007 F150 4 X 4 that I just recently purchased and or course now I'm seeing problems. My truck shutters at 40 mph when shifting gears while the rpms are around 1200 and only seems to do this when you accelerate slowly like there's not enough pressure build up at low RPM's? I also have 35" tires on the truck which I'm sure is not helping things. From what I have read it sounds like the overdrive band? Anyone else have comments. I'm basically trying to figure out what to do? I had the transimission serviced and now it's doing the same thing, but probably a little worse. I hear the tranny needs to relearn the driving patterns and stuff due to the change of fluid, but I'm willing to bet it's the overdrive band and the tranny needs pulled and replaced? Appreciate any opinions of anyone else who know about this Ford problem.

My 2010 did the same thing. I took it in and the re-flashed the pcm and it was gone. There is a TSB that explains it as a torque converter shutter. Do a TSB search for your truck and see what comes up..Hope this helps..

My 2005 2wd with 35s started doing the same thing at that speed unless RPMs were up! How many miles do you have? Mine started doing this at about 110k...

Both a low-grade misfire and torque converter shudder manifest themselves in this manner.

It takes some extra work to determine which is causing the drivability concern.

I'm betting on a low grade misfire - how many miles are on it?

I am having the same problem. I am sitting on 35's also. After talking with my dad and other trusted mechanics. I am leaning towards the torque convertor. My dad suggested the flex plate also. It may have loose or missing bolts or might be cracked. All of which could cause the issue. I don't think it's in the ignition coils because the local shop changed the plugs and inspected the misfire. They didn't find any issues with the IC's. Not totally ruling them out but thinks its in the tranny area. If you figure your out let me know and I'll do the same. Mine's about to got to shop.

My truck did this and its a misfire.

You can also get it to do it about 60 mph on the highway with the convertor locked, or "flashing" the RPMs up from a dead stop during acceleration.

I took mine out of overdrive today. It shutters at slower speeds. I also noticed at red lights and in reverse it shutters. Either a misfire or torque problem it's still $400-600 in parts and labor to be wrong. Don't want to throw good money at bad.

I don't know how a torque converter could make a truck shudder when the trans is in reverse. It's a misfire.

Didn't know that. Still learning. I'm going to change the ignition coils. Local parts store has borgwarner, motorcraft and generic. Does it matter which coil brand?

Motorcraft are the best, but quite expensive. What year and engine? How many miles on what brand spark plugs?

Problem fixed. #3 cylinder went down. You guys/gals were right. Forums are a wealth of knowledge. Went with motorpro ignition coil. New motorcraft plugs put in last month. 160k miles on the truck. A buddy was explaining to me that generic parts are generally made by the name brand folks. The generic people just buy them in bulk, put them in their own box and supply their own warranty. Anyhow truck is running fine now. On a side note, is it weird that I am averaging 24MPG with 35's, a lift kit and 4x4?

Yes, that mileage is very high. Have you corrected the odometer for the larger tires?

According to my GPS the odometer is exactly the same as the GPS.
