I have a 05 f150 4.6 2wd 120K in need of a rebuild. Ford dealer wants $2900

I was thinking about going the salvage route. In the Houston area I can find used for about $600.

I am very capable of installing myself. However I do not have tools to read or flash the transmission codes. (not sure if I need this or not).

Thoughts?

 

I know it's been over a year, but I'm wondering what you wound up doing. I'm in the same boat with my 05 fx4. Considering the same thing.
