shifting problem

I have a V6 4.2 with AODE and the problem is it shifts into first to second fine but won't shift into third until I hit 45 mph then it goes to third nd then overdrive only when the light isn't flashing. When the light is flashing it will only go to overdrive at 45 mph is this a selonoid problem or is my trans gone.

You won't know till you get the DTC codes read out - when the OD light flashes it's setting codes. Autozone, etc. scanners can't read them, you need a higher end scanner. Take it to a dealer or transmission shop.

By the way, you don't have an AODE, you probably have a 4R70W. What year is the truck?

The last year the AODE was manufactured was 1995, and that was only in the Mustang. You have a 4R70W transmission.

Removing the trany valve may show broken metal piece causing the problems.
