98 F150 4.6L S/C 4x4 Clutch Replacement Tips

1. When removing the shifter, do not remove boot from plate as you likely will damage the mini clamps that hold it together, simply raise it to remove the shifter nut that is threaded on the other side of the bolt for removal
2. When marking driveshafts for removal, check for previous markings so no duplicates
3. When removing torsion bars, use rearward tension combined with hammering of adjustment keys from front
4. 13 mm mini ratchet wrench will save time for bottom four bolts of transfer case that are in tight places, both uppers reachable by socket
5. The clutch coupling tool is only useful to loosen the coupling, a slim 16 mm can be used once partially open, for final release
6. The starter has 3 bolts, not two as in some procedures
7. Exhaust pipe does not have to be disconnected, just lowered from rear clamps which will also lower the motor a bit, but be aware it will be a tight removal/install for the tranny, but its better than breaking an exhaust bolt
8. 18 mm ratchet wrench will save time for the tranny crossmember
9. The tranny bolts are accessible by a 30” ratchet extender, not a high torque bolt for mine, and remember where the one longer one comes from, and the upper driver side fuel clamp will get in the way on install
