Securing Torque Converter Question
Securing Torque Converter Question
I've got a quick question for the guys who have pulled their transmissions out. I have a 2005 4X4 F150 with just over 100K miles on it. It looks like the front pump seal went out (or the torque converter) because it's leaking a pretty good amount of tranny fluid from the front of the transmission.
So I'm going to pull the transmission out and fix the issue. It's been years since I pulled a transmission but I know you have to secure the torque converter prior to pulling it. The official instructions is that I need the Ford tool to secure the torque converter (#307-346). In the past I have simply bolted on a box end wrench to the bell housing to keep the torque converter from falling out. Can I do this with the F150 or do I really need the special tool from Ford? Basically I want to pull the transmission this weekend but don't want to have to wait for a special order tool if it isn't necessary. I just thought I'd ask before I got into the process of pulling the transmission. Thanks guys.
