trans temp

what is the "normal" temp range for these transmissions

i have f150 2005 4x4 5.4l eng mostley stock

with an avarage daily temp around 35* my new trans temp gauge sometimes shows 100 and sometimes up to 150, also do they regulate the temp just like the eng or not

Mine with a transmission cooler gets up to 150* for regular daily driving. Right now it gets up to maybe 130* since it's so cold out. You can get it up to 200* without worrying about it too much

Where did you put the temp sensor? A sensor in the output line (line to the first cooler) will show higher peak temps and more varied temps than a sensor in the test port.

I put my sensor in the output line and see temps from 100* gently cruising down the highway, to 180* + on a curvey, hilly road. I have yet to really stress the trans since I installed my gauge, but I suspect I'll see some pretty high temps for the short term when I do.

The highest I've seen mine go is 155*. That was on a back road going 40-45mph with OD off. It's usually between 148 and 150 on the highway. I haven't seen it go above 150 other than that one time.

i installed it in the line from the trans to the radiator. from what i read on here, this is output from tranny and the line from the aux cooler to the tranny is the return - do i have this right ???

i am going to take this apart tommorrow because my "t" fitting is leaking around sensor threads (very small drip) just going to re-apply thread sealer.

My sensor for my trans temp gauge is in the actual transmission. Not a line.
