Question Is my trany shot?

Here's my problem.
I have a 2000 F150 4.6. A year ago I installed a B&M Shift plus kit. I ran it in the first position until it started acting strange. I got scared, turned it off and haven't had any problems since.

The other day I let my friend drive my truck. He knew about the shift kit and turned it on. It immediately started shifting poorly. I uninstalled the kit and reset the computer and still no help. When I drive on the highway, it's like it just shifts into neutral, tachs up to about 4 thousand, then it thunks back into gear. When I stop at a stop sign and start going, it slips then slams into gear.

Is this because of the kit? What should I do?

Thanks
Jon

JonS,

I'm sorry, but you shouldn't have put the B&M shift plus kit in YOUR truck. They only made them for up to 1997 models. I know the installation is just as easy in later model F-150's, but shouldn't be performed.

I ordered one from Summit during my Jet computer chip days. The Summit guy said it WOULD work. The instructions told me where to find the transmission wiring harness, but I couldn't find it. So I called B&M. The service tech said, "No. That electronic shift kit won't work for your truck!" Period. He was kind of an ***. But was upset to find out Summit sold me one.

When you reset your computer, did you unplug both the hot and ground cables to the battery? Make sure you wait about 10 to 20 minutes after you disconnect everything so your computer can "forget." If you want, you can turn your headlights on during the last half of the process do drain everything for sure.

I don't think your transmission is shot. But I would have it looked at by a reputable mechanic if the problem is still there.

Unhappy maybe the same problem

Jon S,
I just posted a similar question. I think I called mine, tranny problem, please help! I never had a shift kit, but I do have a superchip. I took the chip out this morning. I don't think that is the problem cause I've used the chip for 2 years almost. Tell me what you find out. Rebuilds on the 4r70w isn't cheap. I thouht it might have been the fluid but the dealer assured me they used mercon v.
