2002 Super-Cab tranny slipping..

While returning from a Thanksgiving outing to the desert the truck began to experience what I guess is transmission slippage. It was after approx. an hour of travel slightly uphill and into the wind (overdrive off) the trans would hesitate or skip similar to when an ignition coil fails but, I didn't get a "check engine" light so I'm thinking trans. The truck also had been hesitating the last week or so during acceleration with the overdrive on. I would turn off the overdrive and things would be ok. Fluid checked good and didn't show signs of being burnt. Is it still possible that it overheated?

Trying to get a gauge on the problem and solution.

Thanks , P.

It's a low grade misfire. It isn't bad enough to set a code or turn on the light.
If the trans were really slipping it would be toast by now.

Mark, you do have a point that it would be done by now. I will check out the miss-fire.

Tarajrame, I don't think so and I still have to check for codes if any...

Thank you both for your help...

Pat

Had to have AAA tow me home today. Trans working fine however, It looks like I have had another ignition coil go bad. Drove to work just fine but, on the way home had problems. No "check engine" light but truck really running bad (misfire). Any way to determine which one without a scanner? Also, the "cat" on the left side was really hot...

Change them all. A full set of Chinese coils can be had on Ebay for about 80 bucks, and they generally work.

If the cat got that hot, it may be plugged.
