shudder slow to accelerate
I have a 1999 F150 4.2 V6 automatic with 196000 miles. I bought this truck new . When i put the truck in drive and start to pull out normally engine will rev high and will shudder as it pulls out slowly. If I accelerate slow I have no shudder and will shift slowly into second. I have no problem in any other gears or in overdrive. I have no problem in reverse. I have this problem only when i pull out from a dead stop.
can anyone help?

I have a similar problem on my '03 XLT w/5.4, 4R70W trans, and 217k miles. It shudders from a standing start when warm, and stops after shifting into 2nd or 3rd. I can keep it from shuddering if I push the O/D switch button to "off" before I start. Once I'm going, I can push it back on.
I've seen posts that changing the fluid and filter can fix it, and some that say adding some sort of additive does, too. Others insist you make sure to use Mercon V fluid, not Mercon/Dextron "combo". Yet others say you have to put a new torque converter in. I dunno - anybody have a for-sure and clear-cut fix for this?
