The BEST thing for your transmission is the proper fluid and keep it clean. No additives to gum-up the works

That Amsoil is some kind of miracle mix. I can't believe my tranny is still doing it.

Don't go cheap on fluid. Use spec or better.

^^^X2 with the Amsoil..It's about the best there is out there..As jbrew says. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for.

The only tranny additive I could find any evidence of dozens of car owners claiming it to actually fix there shifting problems is Trans X.

My 99 f 150 had been slipping 2-3 for at least a year. Drained the pan , added mobil 1 synthetic , a new filter , and a 32oz bottle of Trans x. Two days later it was shifting like new again , and has continued to shift like new for 4 months now.

When I looked into Z-Max I discovered it is nothing more than mineral oil, not sure if that is good for anything.

What I would do: At your next change: Get yourself a prefered Amsoil membership for 10 bucks, buy their 2.5 gallon jug of transmission fluid + 4 quarts. It will tally at 8 something a quart + shipping.

Or find a local Amsoil dealer and buy it there.

Do a complete flush --- no partials.

Drive 60k and repeat. It won't cost a dime more than changing out conventional @ 30k.

Research this in the site here, and find it out. Mobile One(synthetic) or Amsoil reallly is the best insurance/investment for the transmission.

It really depends on your philosophy; how long you want to keep it before you sell it.

Me, I drove an '87 Ford till 2004. And my car from '92 to 2006.

I'm in an '02 now and I plan to drive it for a looooong time.
