tranny manufacturer?

I was watching offroad racing the otherday on espn and it go tme to wondering. Many of the trucks have a manual transmission that only requires the clutch peddle to be used between nuteral to first and from nuteral to reverse. the rest of the gears are shifted by just moving the stick or by tapping paddles/buttons on the steering wheel. I've seen similar set ups on race cars. does anyone know who makes these transmissions or where i can get more information on them?

You can actually shift any manual transmission without using the clutch. You just have to time it right with the rpm. Don’t know the spec. A racecar mechanic taught me in my younger years. Racecars can’t use their clutch because the speed they travel would tear them up.. I was told. I have done this on cars, trucks and jeeps..

yup

I know you can shift without the clutch, these tansmissions use a clutch, they are just actuated by a hydrolic system of some type. The trannys im asking about do not have a standard stick shift you just tap the stick forward or backwards to shift. they work much like the stick in some sportscars except theres is a physic clutch pedal

Most of the off road racers that run Fords are using a C6 automatic with a modified valve body to make manual shifting easier.

A few teams are using 4R100 auomatics. Not many are using a manual. I have sen many off roaders up close, and I have seen very, very few clutch pedals.
