Transmission Temp?`

I was wondering what my transmission temp should be on my 2006 lariat? On normal around town driving my edge is showing it being around 150 - 170 and when pulling it sometimes gets up to almost 200. the truck has just under 70k on it and i want to do whatever i can to prolong the life of the transmission. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks

Those are normal temps. To prolong the life, change the fluid and use a top quality synthetic such as Amsoil.

Mercon V is perfectly fine unless you really want to spend the extra money for not much benefit (except feeling good).

As noted, your temps are fine, even a bit on the mild side.

What are you measuring the temp with? The numbers are completely all over the place if I use an infrared gun. I see all kinds of different numbers depending on where I point the stupid thing. Now, I use a ScanGauge II. For mine, it varies. My to & from work commute gets the temperature up to about 150 - 165. I've also seen it go as high as 220 on a hot Summer day, after I've been driving for a few hours. But I suspect that mine runs a little hotter due to the 4.10 gears and 35" tires.
