M5OD questions

Tonight I had to park on a really steep hill. In order to get to the spot, I had to back in. It was making a sound like the tires were spinning and I could smell the clutch burning. I don't think the tires actually spun because it was dry and the tires have great tread. Should I get it checked out while I'm still under warranty, or is this common of this weak transmission?

Don't really know a whole lot about the manual transmissions and what (if any) changes have been made to the M5OD. When I had a 92 F150 with a M5OD and 3:08 gears, I'd back up a hill in my driveway and always smell the clutch after I got parked from backing up that hill. It is a fairly steep hill and reverse seemed like it was geared to run down the highway 55-60 mph

You might be ok but if you have any doubt I'd take it in while you're still under warranty.

Not a transmission issue - your clutch was slipping.

Thanks for the replies! Glc, should I get it checked out while under warranty, or is this normal for the m5od? It drove fine all day today. Thanks again.

If you were slipping the clutch trying to back up a hill, it's gonna stink and make noises. Any clutch is going to do that.

Again, it's not a transmission issue, it's a clutch issue, and it's not warranty, that's considered abuse.

Reverse is 3.91:1 and first is 3.90:1. You could call them the same and I would not call you a lier. The clutches from the factory tend to slip when under stress. I run a Kevlar clutch with a stock specification after market pressure plate and it seems to slip a lot less than the factory set up.
