O/D light blinking and Shifting hard-96 Bronco

So i've delt with the problem for a while now most of the time i'll start my truck up and drive a little bit then my 0/D light come on and the trucks rpms get to around 3000 and then BAM! it shifts really hard into 2nd gear. if i drive a little while longer it shifts awkward down into 2nd and then suddenly shoots back up into 3rd gear. Most days this doesn't happen and it drives fine. we've replaced a speed sensor and taken it to a tranny shop and ran a computer on but it still comes up that the speed sensor is bad. i don't want to fork over another $55 just for a tranny shop to scan it and give me the same analysis. any ideas on what the problem is? or how i could fix it?

You sure the new speed sensor isn't defective?

Which exact engine and transmission do you have?

The code doesn't necessarily mean the speed sensor is bad. It could also mean that the wiring between the speed sensor and the PCM could be bad.

What's the tranny code on the door jamb sticker? It's probably "E" which is a E4OD.
