RIP Transmission #5

Last night coming home form Fast Five I heard the death throes of my 5th M5OD. It started knocking just a few miles from home. I limped it home where it will be removed and given a decent burial. The search for a replacement has already begun. Soon #6 will emerge ready for what ever lies ahead.

Unfortunately it needed to have the input shaft bearing replaced or reshimmed but weather would not cooperate. Should have worked in the rain...... Will know more when it comes out next week.

Why haven't you done a ZF swap yet? You've murderated more mazdogs than I've seen, and I have 3 sitting in the garage.

Last month I could have done it. Had cash but foolishly spent it on bills..... Now all I can afford is to put in a used M5OD.

"foolishly" spent it on bills hahaha.
There was a brand new ZF for sale around here, only 1600 bucks.. I got two m5's for 125. One doesn't have a shifter plate though. Not sure what I'm gunna do with my stock or the extra one.
Do you ever get yours rebuilt?

I rebuilt one with parts from a 4x2 but I usually just find one from a scrap yard. #5 was found in a scrap yard just south of Toronto, Canada 4 years ago. It was from a warehouse that had stored brand new transmissions from 1999 Model Year. It lasted the longest of them all. I might rebuild this one. But for now I found 3 candidates in Michigan for less than $600.00. I will throw that in the truck and work on the broken one. Always good to have a spare.....

I don't think I'd be tearing them up like you, well maybe I will until new axle gears are installed.
37's and 3.55 may not be so good for the poor trans.

It's not his tires and gears - it's the engine he has hooked to the poor thing. You are gonna have a hard time destroying it with a straight 6.

I know why he's destroying his. I'm actually more concerned for my clutch grabbing trying to spin the big tires.

Good news: Replacement transmission is in the driveway. Bad news: Now I have to swap it. Calling for rain Tuesday so looks like Wednesday is the day.

Thought you would like those lol. No garage? I'd let you use mine , but my trucks in there getting some body work done. Two would be kinda cramped.

Again, thanks for the offer. Unfortunately the truck will not make it to Michigan without help. Besides weather forecast for tomorrow is sun. Truck is already on stands and the starter is off.
