Odd Transmission problems..
I have a 1999 xlt supercab 4.6 and recently my overdrive seems to have stopped working. About the same time I noticed a couple other things going on..
1. If im at a stop and facing up hill it will roll backwards a little bit before "catching" and going forward. it does not do this on flat ground or facing downhill.
2. If im driving on flat ground and come to a stop very slowly and then go its fine.. If i come to a hard stop then go, it will do the same thing as my uphill stop problem. It doesnt seem to grab first gear until it revs up a bit.
3. If i push the OD button to off it drives much better then if OD is turned on.
Any ideas?

You need to check your transmission fluid. It sounds like you may be low on fluid. Either that, or your trans might be checking out on you. How many miles do you have on it? My trans made it to 190k before the overdrive band went out completely. I would recommend checking your fluid before anything. If its red and doesnt smell then you should be okay, but make sure its topped off. If its starting to turn into a dark red/brownish color then that shows signs of clutch wear and too much heat. At that point, its only a matter of time before you will be replacing it.
New symptom.. In reverse ONLY going up hill, into my driveway, it rolls forward.. I have to gas it pretty good to get it to grab and back up. Could my issues be a bad torque converter?? I checked my fluid with the truck cold, and its about 1/4 of of a inch below the threaded area of the dip stick. can i add fluid right down the dip stick tube? and if so, what kind?
