OD switch bypass

Just picked up my donor truck and have a question. The OD cancel switch is broken off the shifter stalk and it's cuasing the transmission to shift hard and it'll go in and out of 4th. Is there anyway to bypass the switch to save having to pull the column all apart and put in a new stalk?

You need to read the codes that are stored. A broken switch won't cause any of the problems you have. All it can do if it is shorted is keep it from shifting to fourth gear, and not keep it from shifting to fourth gear if the circuit is open.

If you want to prove it, remove the plastic cover from the steering column. Unplug the wiring harness near where it enters the shifter handle. Now the switch is bypassed.

I agree, sounds like you have a problem with your transmission

There are no codes. CEL hasn't been on since I picked it up. He said it was just rebuilt, but it has clogged filter syndrom IMO. Not a huge deal since I bought it for the engine, just wanting to make sure when I put one of my good transmissions in that the switch won't mess with it.

How do you know there are no codes? Most transmission codes will not turn on the CEL.

Oh ok. Well I went ahead and checked the fluid in the light and hot idle in park (as per the stick) there's about 3/4 of an inch too much fluid. I noticed that once it got cool on the highway it was fine unless we went up a steep hill. Once we got into town it would rev way out then slam into the next gear.

Too much fluid will cause all kinds of problems.
