5 spd. standard, screw 4x4

I just found it interesting. I just saw an 06 4x4 screw, on ebay that had been converted to a 5 spd , manual. It said the trans. was from an f250. How much of a B _ _ _ _ was that conversion ? Anyone seen that done before?

yeah, thats the one. Im not great with the copy/paste stuff. The shifter looks lower than I would like. Im wondering how the clutch pedal assy. worked out. is it ( plug n play) bolt on. or alot of mickey mouse. Im not familiar with the set up on the 250. does it use a hydraulic slave cyl. ? I wont be doing this conversion, but I like the whole idea. My wife cant drive a manual.

It's not an easy mod, I know that much. Yes, it's hydraulic. You would need a tranny and transfer case out of a 5.4 or V-10 Super Duty and probably custom driveshafts. The ECU would have to be custom tuned. You may have to hack a big hole in the tunnel and fabricate some sheet metal.

That's pretty sick...looks good with the shifter in there too - looks like they took a Mustang GT shifter. Nice conversion.

They might've had to change out the ecu completely...from what I understand, the ecu controls the tranny more than anything else. That's why when you do a motor swap, only a tune is needed - but when switching transmissions (think 4r70w to 4r100) you need to swap the ecu as well.

After a closer look, they could've cleaned up the dash-to-console area a little better. But overall, a job well done.

I guess the shifter isnt so bad, I think I just remembered the last photo where it appeared lower. I wouldnt mind taking it for a spin. I miss gear jammin. My last standards were a pair of Mercury Capris I had. One an 81 RS 5.0 with an 86 roller motor and a 4spd. the other an 84 RS 2.4 turbo 5spd. A friend is rebuilding the 84 right now. with a much larger tubo and I.C. Its going to be making some serious power.
