Question transmission/transfer case fluids

Someone please give me some insight. I was told my transmission on my 2000 F-150 4x4 takes Mercon V. and my transfer case takes Mercon fluids.

I cannot find Mercon fluid to save my lilfe and was wondering if it would effect my transfer case by putting Mercon V in it. I'd rather have Mercon V in both so I don't have to look all over the world for Mercon or have to buy it from a dealer and never have to remember which one is in where. Also if I can't do this is the stuff they sell at the stores labeled "Dex/Merc" the same as Mercon?

MERCON has been discontinued and was replaced by MERCON V. You will be fine with MERCON V.

Thanks Mark! I was worried because hearing about all the possible damage it would cause. I guess thats old news I appreciate your response.

The universal "Dex/Merc" is okay in the transfer case, but NOT in the transmission. With that said, Mercon V is preferred.
