Hey guys im having trouble shifting from park to drive you know how you press the brake and the shifter unlocks well mine is not doing it sometimes i toggle on the parking lights and works can someone help me out any ideas

 

check the switch on the brake pedal... might need adjustment. Just lay under the steering wheel and you should see 1 or 2 switches hooked up to the brake pedal linkage.

Or... are you against your steering lock out? If your steering wheel is locked it can bind up against the interlock and make it hard to disengage... just spin the steering wheel the opposite direction and see if it unlocks.

 

no i got no problem with the steering wheel its the brake thing and what do you mean by adjustment?

 

If the brake lights are not on, the interlock will not release. He is saying that your brake light switch may be out of adjustment or starting to fail.

In a pinch read AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OPERATION
Brake-shift interlock in your Owners manual. It starts on page 209. This procedure will allow you to shift into N to start and drive away.

 

This is an intermittent problem, but getting worse. My shift lever button will not engage to let me shift into drive. Sometimes I recycle the brake pedal and at the same time squeeze the shift button on the shift lever and it will work. Not sure what the problem is and would appreciate some help.
