This is an inttermittent problem but getting worse. When I push the brake pedal down and then squeeze the shifter lever button to engage it, it is stuck and will not let me shift into drive. I have to cycle the brake pedal and squeeze the shift lever button at the same time to get it to work. Would appreciate some help.

 

Check your brake light switch.

 

So if the brake light switch does not work it will not release the shift lever.

 

Correct. That's why it's called a brake interlock.
