4R70W will not downshift??

I have a 2001 F150 with the 4R70W. When driving around 30-40 mph & I stomp the gas it will not downshift? I just slowly accelerates in whatever gear that im in at low RPM's. What could be the problem? Im not towing anything?

Thx!

I will throw in a guess. Check the TPS.

Yes, that.

If the TPS is giving bogus info then shifting can get messed up.

Could also be the MLPS, but less likely IMHO.

MLPS = manual lever position sensor. Also acts as the neutral safety switch.

IMHO = in my humble opinion.

5.4T - *ALL* responses in this thread have been directed to the ORIGINAL POSTER. His truck WILL NOT downshift. It sounds like YOUR problem is different. YOUR truck is probably experiencing a low grade misfire. Spark plug time. If it has COP ignition, one or more cops could also be getting weak.
