Only 30K miles, but hard to shift

Guys - I have an '07 XL, and lately it's been hard to get it into first or reverse from a standstill. The problem is more pronounced after it's been sitting a while.

Surely this thing doesn't need a new clutch, although I bought it used and have discovered other signs of abuse. What would you suggest I try first? Change the tranny fluid? The clutch fluid?

Firestone did a vehicle inspection for me last weekend and said the fluid looked okay. I guess I need to call them and make sure they looked at tranny and clutch fluids.

Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

The most likely issue is a sticky pilot bearing. You should still be under the factory powertrain warranty, I'd consult with the dealer.

Thanks - I keep forgetting I still have a few years of drivetrain warranty left.

It could be a number of things. glc mentioned one of them. Easy things first. Reach under the dash and find the clutch master cylinder push rod. Should be near the gas pedal. is it wet with brake fluid? Yes, leaking master cylinder. No, it is normal. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. If that improves things the most likely thing then is a leaking slave. Do you know what this truck was used for before you purchased it?

All I know is that it was a fleet truck on lease.
