Change torque converter fluid?

Recently, I had the auto transmission of my 02 F150 5.4L 2WD serviced at my local dealership. The truck has 65K miles on it and this service was done about 30K miles ago. The fluid and filter was changed but the torque converter fluid was not changed, even though I expressly asked for it to be done. I'm pretty sure the torque converter fluid was changed at 30K at the same dealership because there was a discussion about the extra cost. The excuse this time was, "there is no drain plug and Ford does not recommend it." Does anyone disagree?

I don't think there is a drain plug on the transmission either so you have to drop the pan to drain the fluid. I assume something similar must be true with the torque converter. Fluid was put in it at some point so there must be a way to replace it.

Thanks.

Bill

If they use an exchange machine to do it then the fluid in the TC gets replaced too.

If the dealer doesn't have an exchange machine, find a different dealer or go to a shop that has one. Even most quick oil change joints have one these days.

Thanks guys. I'm disappointed that the dealer wasn't aware or didn't take the time to tell me that a fluid exchange would change the fluid in the torque converter as well as the transmission. I'll probably give him a call and see what he can do in the name of customer service. Thanks again.
