04 5.4 4WD work with new motor?

I have a chance to jump on a complete 2004 5.4 Lightning motor with ECU. Will this work with my 4WD 2004 transmission? It currently has the triton 5.4 as well, just didn't know if there would be computer problems or 4WD problems with the blower motor. Thanks in advance.

yeah it should bolt up fine. you'll have to do some tweaking to get everything with the blower set up but once you do you should be fine. just don't tear up the tranny and you're good to go

Is your '04 a heritage or a new body style? If it's the new body style, you might run into some problems. Also if NBS, your 5.4 is a 3v motor, whereas the Lightning motor is a 2v. You could probably make it work, but it might take some work.

You will need to run your stock computer and tune it to run the L motor.
04 Heritage should have a 4r70w transmission.
04 new body style has a 4r75w transmission.
And an 04 Lightning had a 4r100 trans.
The computer is transmission specific. Witch means all three have different computers and you need the computer for your current trans to operate it.

Outstanding, thank you for the replies, I've got the new body style 04, so the 4r75w according to your posts.. For the tuning, an Edge tuner will work? I'm assuming the L motor has larger injectors to support the blower, which the Edge can tune the stock ECU to run with? My tranny has 140k miles on it, so this motor would most likely put it over the top anyway....I just want to keep the 4WD ya know?

I think you will be better off with an SCT tuning product because of the outstanding abilities they have for an automatic transmission. But, the advice you have been given about what computer to use is good.
