which converter

im doing a 4.6 to 5.4 swap and have read that i cant use the 4.6 converter, and im wondering if i should get a 5.4 one out of a salvage yard or just get a reman unit. the question is that the remans say the the fit both the 4.6 and 5.4 but have the option for low stall or high stall witch is the right one?

What reason have you been given as to why you can't use the 4.6 converter?

hm the only reason I can think of right now would be if you have a romeo build 4.6, then I think you have to change the flexplate. Have you searched any on here for the JMC write up?

different stall speed and will put to much torque through the trans

this is where the info came from https://www.f150online.com/forums/tr...ml#post3570245

the 4.6 i pulled out has the 8 bolt flexplate and same converter bolt pattern as the 5.4 flex plate the i have

hey I ran the 4.6 converter with the 5.4 lightning. it had 196k on the trans and it took another 2k miles before that motor finished the clutches.

Oops, sorry. I thought I replied but I have been so darn busy with getting everything in order to move the shop that I guess I just thought about it instead of doing it.

Yeah, from that year 4.6, that is fine to use it.
