Yep.

Offers excellent lubricating protection and better performance over a wider temperature range than conventional automatic transmission fluids. Recommended for a wide range of applications, including GM DEXRON® III-H, for 2005 and older vehicles originally calling for DEXRON®, DEXRON® II & DEXRON® III as well as Ford MERCON®, & MERCON® V plus many others.
If you use it, do a complete fluid exchange, don't just drop the pan.

only thing i know to do is take it to a shop and have them hook up their extraction machine..cuz if you just drain the pan you only drain about 6 quarts..

and if you take off the lines and run it you will probably screw something up! not sure what but probably mess up the TQ converter or burn the transmission up or something

On a 01 you may or may not have a torque converter drain plug. If you do, you don't need a machine to do a full exchange.

Drop the dust plug under the bellhousing, and have someone turn the engine over by hand. If it has one, you will see it.

All the 2001 trucks had a torque converter drain plug when they left the factory. They stopped installing drain plugs just after the start of 2002 production.

I'd use Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. I've heard too many failures with people using Amsoil.

Hello!

What types of failures - and attributed to what fluid properties?

I'm interested because I ran the stuff in my previous truck - but not long enough to make any sort of reliability determination.

My problem is one of availability. In Canuckistan we can only get the M1 Mercon ATF formulation; the MerconV formulation commonly available in the USA is not imported into Canada by Exxon-Mobil - I called them and was told this - despite the fact that there are a couple of vehicles up here that can use the stuff

What's worse, every CTC ( Crappy Tire) store in my neck of the woods sells the Mercon formulation, but labels the shelf space as MerconV ATF! I wonder how many unsuspecting folks are destroying their trannies as a result of this mis-information.

I confronted store managment - they were A) disbelieving, B) surprised and C) unconcerned. After months, it's STILL this way. Time fer a letter to Corporate, but I ain't holding my breath, lol. Idiots.

So - import M1 MerconV ATF from Buffalo, or use Amsoil ATF, or get raped by the Stealer for MC ATF - not much else save RP or Redline - hard to find and very $$$.

Mark - is their any other ATF you could recommend - one of the mutli-use fluids, perhaps - Castrol, Valvoline, etc?

Yes - we are still a Colony and summarily ignored

Thanks, Mark.
