I just got some of the same hose they use for aftermarket trans coolers. 3/8" sounds like the size I used.. I got the brass T and other fittings from Lowes. I'm not sure when our trucks were able to report the trans temp? But, you would be getting basically the pan temp from the Scangauge, as it would take the temp from the plate.

If you want to know the temp of the fluid as it comes out of the trans, the only place is the trans output line.. Personally, that's where I prefer it..

I've got the ScanGauge II and on my truck I'm able to see the display for the transmission fluid temperature. I should know, but I don't - where is the temperature being taken? Is this the highest temperature for the transmission before it goes out into the cooling lines? Or is this the temperature after it returns from the cooler? If I see the temperature climb up to 200 on the gauge, is the fluid at that temperature before or after cooling?

If you are plugging into the computer to get the trans temps, then it's gonna basically be the pan temps... Which is AFTER it's gone thru any trans cooler you have...
