Options for different transmission
Hello All,
I was wondering what all options i may have for a different transmission. Il start with why im getting a different one. I was out last night and got stuck and had to get pulled out. Needless to say, it killed my transmission. Its puking fluid out the overflow, but only a few quarts. It doesn't grind or anything, just feels like its stuck in 2 and slips in and out of 3rd. I called a few dealers and transmission places, all basically telling me its fried. So now my search is on.
The questions i have is, is it possible to put a different year of tranny in it? They were telling me that the 04 transmission is the only year they put that transmission in. I have an 04 f-150 FX4 with the 5.4 4x4. Also, do they make a manual transmission for that style/year/make of truck? Im not too familiar with transmission, and this forum has been extremely helpful for me lately, so i wanted to ask you guys. I plan on putting the transmission in myself with my buddy and my dad in my buddys garage. So the reason i was asking about a manual is because id actually rather have a manual. Any ideas? I was just gonna get a new one, but really short on cash. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you are short on cash then a manual swap isn't for you. Get a direct replacement and hope for the best.
Try and find one from an 04 that has the same engine and amount of drive wheels as your truck. IE, no 2wd transmissions for a 4wd truck and vice versa.
