Trans advice

Unfortunately ,I found that my transmission is leaking above the starter. The leak is getting worse so I have it evaluated at a local trans shop. Also had an occasional hard downshift down from overdrive. Shop says the bell housing seal is leaking and I have a rear main leak. Can't tell me why I have the shift issue. Wants 1,500.00 deer to rebuild trans and 350 deer for a torq converter. Says it coud be more to bring up to Ford specs and they will not do the rear main. My thought is to fix the rear main, new bell housing seal, and change fluid and filter and see how long I can keep it on the road. Have 157,000 miles and would like to get a 2005 Expedition in the next 12 to 24 months. Other than occasional overdrive shift, runs great. Any thoughts?

Thats what they said, bellhousing seal. I checked with another shop today and they would do the rear main seal but said they would not fix or could not fix the transmission leak unless the pump (I have no idea exactly what this is) would have to be replaced to fix the leaking seal. They did not use the term bellhousing seal. They suggested a 1,000 deer rebuilt trans with warranty. I am starting to think I may have to drive it until it dies and start saving for a newer Expedition.
