94 4r70w questions

Ok so I've already changed out one trans for a used one and i just tore that one up last weekend. I'm planning on putting in a used one again and tearing the old one down so that I can keep the truck on the road. I had a good amount of metal sludge in the pan and had the trans lock into 2nd before i pulled it. Im not a trans guy i've never opened one up but i would like to give it a run.
I'd like to know what books to look for as a guild and what the best rebuild kit would be to buy for a daily driver( mind you i have a heavy foot). Any other mods that I need to or could do and what the benefits would be. Thank you for your time and input.

I was able to successfully rebuild my 4R70W using this guide:

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...d.php?t=128800

I used that guide, plus several hours of google searching to round up all the information in order to rebuild it properly.

Another helpful link was:

http://www.tccoa.com/articles/tranny/index.html

So far I have a few thousand miles on this rebuild and I haven't had any problems yet other than a slowly leaking dipstick (didn't replace the o-ring), but hopefully it lasts a while.

Good thing you have a used tranny in there right now because doing this rebuild taking my time to learn and do things right it took me around a month in my garage. Oh and something that really helps is a good set of snap ring pliers because the cheap ones from the autoparts store simply break...

Good Luck,

- Erik

I had one, it never worked and I talked to Darrin Burch on these forums. His experience with 94's is not favorable at all.

be sure you get newer steel parts (damn near everything has been upgraded since then), and make sure you get a replacement intermediate stub shaft even if yours is still together.
