No clutch pedal return

I had to replace the clutch adjuster rod and tightened the return spring but now my clutch pedal does not return. I have a 1983 Ford F-150 with a mechanical clutch. What's the problem?

I had a 1980 F-150 and when the clutch pedal didn't return. The spring had come unhook from the actuator rod. Or the spring has broken. Or the something is broken in the clutch.

Open the inspection hole and have some one stroke the clutch ensure it is freely moving on the input shaft..check for binding linkage. the noise could be due to clutch chatter from the disk noe disengaging fully..
