Whining question

I have a 05 F150 5.4, 85000miles. The past week there has been a whining noise when accelerating. It sounds almost like a turbocharger sound. It only makes the sound when in a gear (not park or N). A buddy found that it was loudest under the truck near the flywheel. He believes that it is either the flywheel or the torque converter. Just wanting to know more opinions on the situation. Thanks

i would suspect its internal gear train as the torque convertor still turns in park or neutral bearings or planetaires maybe
