I've got a 99 F150 with 140,000 miles on it. i bought it a few years back at 70,000 miles and have no idea if the previous owner ever had it flushed. As of last week the truck has started to whine at the higher RPM's before changing gears (it's an automatic) and recently it's decided to shift "rough" and seem to slip between gears.

Also, i just noticed today that when driving up a hill "Bertha" was riding rough. There was a shake to her that i've never noticed before while driving. I'm wondering what is going on, if it's one thing or multiple things. I know that the transmission is not shifting but the "whine" is whats throwing me off. Is it the torque converter making that noise when i'm accelerating? Is it a fuel issue? Could there be something wrong with my belt tensioner?

The first thing you need to do is get that fluid changed. You can either have it done with an exchange machine (NOT a chemical flush) or you can drop the pan and drain the torque converter yourself.

 

While you have that tranny pan off, invest in a B&M drain plug for the pan! You will be glad you did in the future! The fluid should be changed every 30K or so. Check the magnet for metal particles.
By the way, my wife whines when when I drop the hammer on this beast...the truck or the boat. I got to admit, at 70+ on the boat, it is a lot scarier than 110 in the truck
