Speedo gear change help

Hey, is there some trick to doing this.

I have the new 20 tooth gear and I know where the VSS is on the tranny. I undid the 11mm bolt that holds the VSS to the tranny and I was able to take the whole unit out of the tranny. My question is how do you get the gear off once its out of the tranny. I tried pulling, twisting, even vice grips and the damn thing won't come off?

The part above the arrow it what I am trying to take off.

Any ideas?

97xl. How much did that gear run you and how was the install? I'm going to 35"s soon and I'm already off by 10mph with my 33"s an I know the dealer wants something like 200+ for it

Thats prolly for the whole unit. The part I swapped was just the plastic gear on the end. Once I knew I have to remove the clip just above the gear it was easy. I bought my gear online cuz the dealer here had no clue what I was taling about. Cost me $13+ shipping but I've heard others getting the gear from the dealer for less than $10.

You need to know which gear you need, i.e 16 tooth, 17 etc...
This is where I got mine.

Went from the grey gear to the orange one.

To get the right one you need to know 3 things.
1) Drive gear tooth, this is the gear inside the tranny not the one on the sensor. I had to take the sensor out, use a mirror and a toothpick to count the teeth. Mine was 8. It will be either a 7 or 8 tooth drive gear.
2) Rear end gear ratio i.e 3.73
3) tire height in inches i.e 265/70r16 = 30.61"

This will tell you the driven gear you need.
I just called them, gave them the above info and they told me which one I needed. I think the guy I spoke with was Cary or Gary?

Np, once you know which new gear you need you can prolly get one from the dealer, if the parts guy is not a moron, when I went to a dealer here he had no clue what I wanted, he thought I meant the whole sensor too.
