tranny issues

I have 97 f150 4.2l 4r70w tranny 152,000 miles, 2 days ago I noticed that when you put the truck in drive you dont actually feel it go into drive. It takes 2 or 3 seconds and then the rpms drop down after it is put in drive. Also when you slow down and go around a corner after you let off the brake it takes it a second or so to downshift into the lower gear for acceleration. I checked the tranny fluid and it is red and doesnt smell like it is burned. Any suggestions?

the filter was changed about 7800 miles ago. Also it does not slip while accelerating but I have been taking it pretty easy since it started. It doesnt hesitate goin from overdrive to the next gear down when going up hills

I took my truck to a tranny shop here and they said that the electronic pressure control switch was bad, and probably other things wrong with the transmission. quoted me anywhere from $1200-$1900. Do you guys think it is time to get another truck? I am looking on the internet at a few and would really like the 4.6 and 4 wheel drive.

You might be better off doing that, with the gasket problems on the 97 and early 98 4.2's.
