]I lost overdrive (story and cool fix posted seperately). The OD servo retaining ring broke, and the the hook end (for removal) wound up in the pressure regulator valve bore. Long story short is I disassembled the Factory Tech Valve Body (which by the way I love, and installed back in 05 on my blown and tuned 5.4 supercrew). I followed the steps on the Ford Factory CD and noticed that there were only 7 check *****, not 8. Ball #7, see attached, was not installed, and I noticed the relief port on the plate for that channel was sealed. After I cleaned the valve body and the plate I did not see the blockage on the plate over the missing ball. Did I imagine that or do I need to reseal the relief port over ball #7?

Yes, at first I thought it was blockage, but then I noticed the absence of the check ball, and thought that it may be sealed.
Now I'm beginning to think that you are going to tell me that was a melted check ball!

You need a new check ball and it needs to be harder than the stock one was with that valve body. Harder than stock, but not made of anything as hard as or harder than the valve body or plate and it has to have some give to it. I like to use some hard plastic check ***** that I found. They seem to work out in situations like this where something more is needed.

Any suggestions for where to purchase better *****? Also, has Ford corrected the weak retaining ring for the OD servo? My tranny may not last long enough to break the stock ring, but I would like the piece of mind. If not where can I get a harder ring?
